Location:
Sir M Visveswaraya Institute of Techbology (MVIT) is located about 1km off the Bangalore International Airport Road in Yelahanka, a distant suburb in North Bangalore. Although it’s far from the city centre, it isn’t completely inaccessible as BMTC buses drop you within walking distance of the college. Bus facility is also provided by the college at an additional Rs. 11,000/- per year.

Infrastructure:
You are sure to be overwhelmed by the sheer magnificence of the campus; it’s colossal. Apart from the Engineering College, there’s a MBA department and a Dental college as well. The college is pretty old and the infrastructure isn’t all that great. Students claim that although they don’t face any major issues, the infra could have been better, especially the library which is not well maintained and books are kept in a disorderly manner.
There are two hostels at Sir M Visveswaraya Institute of Technology (MVIT). The old hostel charges Rs. 25-30,000 per year and the new one Rs. 60,000/- per year. Obviously the new one is better, but the old hostel is decent too.

Faculty:
MVIT has one of the finest faculties for Computer Science Engineering (CS) and Information Science Engineering (IS) departments in the whole of Bangalore with ECE, EEE and Telecom following up close. The same, however, cannot be said about Mechanical, Civil and the remaining streams which have MTechs and inexperienced teachers dominating. The faculty is average in these departments, not bad.
Attendance & Discipline:
Sir M Visveswaraya Institute of Technology (MVIT) is quite stubborn about attendance issues. 75% is mandatory and everyone complies with it.
Crowd:
MVIT’s distant location doesn’t stop any of them from coming right from central Bangalore or even South Bangalore; at least half of the people here are from proper Bangalore. A lot of them come from North India too. All in all a very intermingling and friendly crowd, some nerdy types as well, and you can expect to have fun all four years.
Canteen:
MVIT’s canteen is sufficiently large and comfortably accommodates a large number of students without causing much congestion. It’s divided into 3-4 parts; one for the faculty, one with only standees, one with some chairs and tables and so on. The sitting area is a little less and only lucky ones get to eat lunch there. Food is a little inconsistent they say, what tastes the best today, might be the worst the next day. Juices & Milkshakes at the canteen are worth trying.
Festivals:
“Kalanjal” counts as the biggest celebrations event at Sir M Visveswaraya Institute of Technology (MVIT). It’s held in October. Apart from that, various other festivals like Technofest, E-fest, Susanskruti & department level fests are organized at the college.
Placements:
Marvellous! Everyone here can be assured of getting into one company or the other unless of course he/she opts out of the placement process. Many are said to get into 4 or 5 companies simultaneously and in such cases, it’s the student who chooses the company he wants to work for rather than the standard process of the company selecting students. TCS, Cognizant, Wipro, MindTree, Cummins are major recruiters. Higest salary goes to a whopping Rs. 13-14 lakh per annum and average hovers around Rs. 4,00,000 per year. “The only issue is that there are few core companies coming in for our department” says a Mechanical Engineering student.

Verdict:
Marvellous placements, above average faculty and a very interactive crowd make Sir M Visveswaraya Institute of Technology (MVIT) one of the most sought after engineering colleges in Bangalore. A must take for average scorers if they can get in and the toppers should definitely put it within the first 10 colleges of their lists.
