The craze for medical education is ever increasing, and the number of aspirants for the medical stream is growing this year. In Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, about 101972 candidates have applied to take the test in medical and agriculture disciplines, while another 1191 candidates have applied for both medical and engineering for EAMCET 2016.

The statistics of Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) examination reveal that applications for admission into Medical Colleges are on a rise despite fewer seats. The main reason behind the heavy rush for the course is that there are ample opportunities though the seats are less.  Also, candidates from two States are competing for the available seats. In the year 2015, about 17,630 candidates have applied for entrance into the medical stream from the region alone.

In Maharashtra, there are more candidates aspiring to join medicine while engineering is facing a new low this year. For years, a degree in engineering was considered a medium for success. But this year, 1.41 lakh candidates have signed up to take the medical common entrance test (MH CET), compared to 1.26 lakh who will be sitting for the engineering entrance exam. In addition, 1.42 lakh students will be taking both the entrance test.

Medicine is definitely looking more promising than engineering. Due to poor recruitment, low quality of colleges and inexperienced faculty, lesser number of aspirants are opting for the engineering education sector.
